Things to look forward to with surgery

08.31.11 at 8:44 pm (lists, pre-pttd surgery)

*even if I end up in pain long after, it should no longer be the ‘you’re causing damage…stop walking!’ pain and should shift into the ‘if you can ignore it, it is safe to do so..thus carry on’ realm. i’d of course prefer no pain, but if it has to be, if i can, at least i’d have the go-ahead to ignore it and hike..

*i get good drugs and don’t have to rob a pharmacy for them. suck on that all you junkies out there who can walk just fine! 🙂

*i get time off of work
wahooooo
i’m only scheduled for 2 weeks at this point as i work on my butt at home and surgeon #2 said i only needed one week off – after which, i could go to part time…
so, might not be as much as i’d like, but vacation time aside, this is one situation that definitely falls in the short-term-disability/fmla category…which means that should more be needed, i will not be forced into 2 weeks or kissing my job goodbye.

*it’s been about two years since i’ve watched the stunning wentworth miller and his lovely friend amaury nolasco on prison break…which, mind you, i used to watch while on the treadmill..So, now I can watch all the shows again from start to finish … mildly ironic that now it would be from my butt partially because of the treadmill…but regardless, i can watch episode after episode – and not once in the long line of shows would i feel guilty/wrong about my lethargic gluttony. instead, i have no choice but to sit there, so i reckon i just might enjoy it.

*oo…I can also watch all of the seasons of the x-files again. The last time I watched it was (hah) when I had an elliptical. (I’m sensing a pattern here.)
It’s been long enough that the episodes will be almost new again.

*Unfortunately, I recently re-read all of my Get Fuzzy and Calvin & Hobbes books (all of two months before I found out I had to have surgery)..But I have a bunch of comic books I can read again..

*Supposedly, once your posterior tibial tendon is gone, it stops constantly hurting. So, even if I am hit with the pain of the rest of it, it will be nice to no longer have the grating.

*I can finish any (or all) of the 20+ paper books piled by my bed that I have started but not completed…and finish the 7 Kindle books I have also yet to complete. Or, as will probably happen, I can read the first half of about 50 more Kindle books as I recently got it from Woot and have since downloaded piles of the free, classic literature…Either way I go, I can explore the worlds of words..

*Oooo Kindle has some audio book read to you thing, so I can spend hours having it read me anything from Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales to Bram Stoker’s Dracula’s Guest (one of the many I am half way through). A nice break from staring at a page that wouldn’t involve staring at a screen.

*I can spend more time than usual lifting arm weights, doing one-legged lifts, and crunches as I shan’t be up and about to much else…

*I can invent one-legged pilates

*I can invent a contraption (does it already exist?) that will allow me to sit on my bike trainer and use said contraption to pedal one side with my hands while my ‘good’ foot pedals the other. Thus getting cardio and …not staring at the ceiling.

*I can fill up my kitty snuggling tank for all those future times that I will get up to go to work and see them curled so perfect while longing to bury my face in their soft fuzz and drift back asleep, lulled by the murmur of their crunchy purrs.

to be continued..
